Looking for a way to get involved at the Newman Center? A great place to start is College Night! Every Thursday at 7:00PM during the school year, undergrads meet at the Newman Center for prayer and fellowship.
My name is Emily. I am a sophomore at ASU, majoring in Choral Education. I started coming to the Newman Center about two months ago, and I couldn't be happier. I moved from Chandler to Tempe when I started college last year, and had attended mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel for about a year. It is a wonderful family parish, but there was something missing in my spiritual life that I couldn't put my finger on. One afternoon, as I was walking to class, I saw the table on the mall, and decided to stop by and get some information. The following Thursday, I found myself at college night. I had come alone and was a little intimidated, but everyone was open and welcoming, and by the end of the night, I felt like I was at home already. Over the last few months, I have tried to get as involved as I can, and I already feel it paying off in all aspects of my spiritual life. The Newman Center has provided me with an amazing sense of community and home, not just in the place, but also among the people. There are opportunities to get involved waiting around every corner for anyone who is willing. I hope if you feel called to spend more time at the Newman Center, and that it gives you a sense of belonging and service, like it has for me. I hope to see you there if I don't know you yet, and am looking forward to seeing you again if I already have.
